First Time on a Plane

  • Sarah: Hi, Jack! Are you excited about our ________ next week?

  • Nervous: Feeling anxious or worried, often about an upcoming event or situation.

    Check-in: The process of registering or confirming one's arrival, especially at a hotel or airport.

    Security: Measures taken to protect against threats, dangers, or unauthorized access.

    Baggage claim: The area within an airport where passengers collect their checked luggage after a flight.

    Suitcases: Containers or bags, typically with handles, used for carrying clothes and personal belongings during travel.

    Adventure: An exciting or unusual experience, often involving exploration, risk, or new discoveries.

    Explore: To travel through or investigate a place in order to discover more about it or to seek new experiences.

  • Step 1: Introduce the topic of traveling and flying on a plane. Ask students if they have done any long flights, or what they like to do at the airport when they are waiting. Introduce words like airplane, airport, security, etc.

    Step 2: Have the students discuss the warm-up questions. Ask for some answers after they are done. 

    Step 3: Play the audio. Have your students listen and fill in the missing words in the script. 

    Step 4: Have the students complete the vocabulary worksheet before or after the listening. This will depend on teacher preferences.  

    Step 5: Let the students discuss the discussion questions and elicit answers from them after they are done. You should get them to use the vocabulary in their discussions.   ​
