    3. What can be challenging about moving to a new city or town?  

  • Alice: Hey Steven! Have you ____________ into living in New York City? 

    Mark: Hi Alice! Yeah, I've been here for a few months now. It's been quite an experience, but there are good and bad things about this city. 

    Alice: I can imagine. What do you think are the good things about living here? 

    Mark: Well, the __________ here is incredible. You get to meet people from all over the world, try different cuisines, and experience various cultures. And the job _________________ are vast! 

    Alice: That's true! What about the ______________, are there any? 

    Mark: Definitely. The cost of living is high. Rent, transportation, everything seems expensive. And the fast-paced lifestyle can be ________________ sometimes. It feels like the city never sleeps! 

    Alice: I understand. But what about transportation? Is it convenient? 

    Mark: Yes, the public transportation system is ______________. Subways and buses can get you almost anywhere, but they can be _________________ during rush hours. And delays can happen occasionally.

    Mark: Generally, the city is safe, but like any big city, you have to be cautious, especially in certain areas at night. It's always good to be aware of your surroundings.

    Mark: There's always something happening in New York! The museums, theaters, parks—there's never a shortage of things to do. But sometimes, finding quiet spaces can be a challenge. 

    Alice: That sounds both exciting and overwhelming. Overall, what's your _____________ of living in New York City?

    5. Overwhelming: Intense or overpowering, causing strong emotions due to being excessive or too much to handle.

    6. Extensive: Covering a large area, having a great amount or degree of something.

    7. Surroundings: The area or environment around a particular place or person.

    8. Impression: A perception or opinion formed about someone or something based on an experience or observation.

    9. Vibrant: Full of life, energy, and activity, often characterized by liveliness and excitement.

  • Step 1: Introduce the topic of living in another country or if they have visited New York City before. Ask students which cities they would want to live in and why. Introduce words like culture, going abroad, foreigner, diversity, etc 

    Step 2: Have the students discuss the warm-up questions. Ask for some answers after they are done. 

    Step 3: Play the audio. Have your students listen and fill in the missing words in the script. 

    Step 4: Have the students complete the vocabulary worksheet before or after the listening. This will depend on teacher preferences.  

    Step 5: Let the students discuss the discussion questions and elicit answers from them after they are done. You should get them to use the vocabulary in their discussions.   ​
