Technology Vocabulary

Beginner Level:

  1. Computer - An electronic device used for various tasks, such as browsing the internet, sending emails, and working on documents.

  2. Smartphone - A mobile phone that can perform a wide range of functions, including internet access, app usage, and more.

  3. App - A software application designed to run on a smartphone, tablet, or computer for a specific purpose.

  4. Internet - The global system of interconnected computer networks that allows the sharing of information and communication.

  5. Website - A collection of web pages accessible on the internet and organized under a common domain or URL.

  6. Email - Electronic mail used to send messages and documents to others over the internet.

  7. Password - A secret combination of characters or words used to access protected accounts or devices.

  8. Social Media - Online platforms that enable users to create and share content, connect with others, and interact.

  9. Mouse - A pointing device used to control the cursor on a computer screen.

  10. Download - The process of transferring data or files from the internet to a computer or device.  

  11. Charge: To supply electrical power to a device.

 

Intermediate Level:

  1. Operating System (OS) - Software that manages computer hardware and provides common services for computer programs.

  2. WiFi - A wireless technology that allows devices to connect to the internet or other networks without the need for physical cables.

  3. Browser - A software application used to access and view websites on the internet.

  4. Hardware - The physical components of a computer or electronic device, such as the monitor, keyboard, and processor.

  5. Cloud Computing - The practice of using remote servers on the internet to store, manage, and process data.

  6. Cybersecurity - The practice of protecting computer systems, networks, and data from digital threats and attacks.

  7. Software - Programs and applications that run on a computer or electronic device.

  8. Database - A structured collection of data that can be accessed, managed, and updated electronically.

  9. Artificial Intelligence (AI) - The development of computer systems that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence.

  10. Automation - The use of largely automatic equipment or systems to reduce the need for human intervention. 

  11. Streaming - Transmitting data over the internet in real-time. 

  12. Algorithm - A step-by-step procedure for problem-solving or calculations. 

  13. Encryption - Encoding data to secure it from unauthorized access.

 

Advanced Level:

  1. Virtual Reality (VR) - A technology that simulates a three-dimensional environment, often used for immersive experiences.

  2. Augmented Reality (AR) - A technology that overlays digital information or elements onto the real world.

  3. Quantum Computing - Computing technology that uses the principles of quantum mechanics for faster and more powerful processing.

  4. Blockchain - A decentralized digital ledger technology used for secure and transparent transactions.

  5. Big Data - Large and complex data sets that are difficult to manage and analyze with traditional methods.

  6. Machine Learning - A subset of AI that allows computer systems to learn from data and improve their performance over time.

  7. Algorithm - A set of instructions or rules for solving a problem or completing a task.

  8. IoT (Internet of Things) - A network of interconnected devices and objects that can collect and exchange data.

  9. Biotechnology - The use of biological systems, organisms, or derivatives for technological applications. 

  10. Biometrics - Using physical characteristics for identification, like fingerprints.

  11. 3D Printing - The process of creating three-dimensional objects from digital models by layering material.
